In this first webinar of our series on “Career Decisions, Management, and Leadership in a Data and AI World”, Dr. Katia Walsh, Chief Strategy and Artificial Intelligence Officer @ Levi’s and Jeff McMillan, Chief Analytics and Data Officer @ Morgan Stanley, two data leaders with significant commercial acumen and business experience, will explain how they navigate their career choices and set the agenda for data and AI in a way that maximises their – and their organizations’ – chances for success. For example, we will discuss what questions to ask in “reverse interviews” before accepting a job, how to plan the first 100 days in a new position, ideal reporting lines for a data leader, creating an influence map, choosing use cases, working effectively with the board and peers, and aligning incentives.

Katia Walsh
Senior Vice President & Chief Strategy and Artificial Intelligence Officer @Levi's
Dr. Katia Walsh has 25 years of experience at the intersection Digital, Data, and Artificial Intelligence (AI), helping global brands achieve strategic goals, drive customer centricity, and thrive on technology change. At Levi Strauss & Co., Katia leads strategy and artificial intelligence, accelerating the company’s digital transformation. Before Levi’s, Katia was the first Chief Global Data and AI Officer at Vodafone Group, where she led teams for 25 operating countries as part of the company’s digital transformation. Katia has also held leadership roles and driven customer-centric innovations at Prudential Financial, where she launched data analytics as part of its digital transformation; Fidelity Investments, where she pioneered a data-driven customer experience; and Forrester Research, Inc., where she helped grow digital native businesses into the household names of today’s technology industry. Katia holds a Ph.D. from the University of Missouri-Columbia.
Jeff McMillan
Chief Analytics and Data Officer @Morgan Stanley
Jeff McMillan is Managing Director, Chief Analytics & Data Officer for Morgan Stanley Wealth Management, where he is responsible for all aspects of Wealth Management’s strategy to leverage analytics, data and artificial intelligence to drive growth and efficiencies across the wealth management business. Jeff is also the Co-chair of Morgan Stanley’s Veterans Employee Network and an active proponent for the needs of our Veteran Community. Prior to his current responsibilities, Jeff has held a variety of roles at Morgan Stanley, as well as other financial services firms in the areas of Investment Products, Research, Operations, Digital Strategy and Technology as well as leading major integration initiatives. Jeff is a graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point where he received a BS in economics. Upon graduation, he served on active duty as an armor officer and scout platoon stationed in South Korea and Fort Knox, KY.
Theos Evgeniou
Professor of Decision Sciences and Technology Management @INSEAD
Theos Evgeniou is Professor at INSEAD since 2001, working on Machine Learning and AI for the past 25 years, on areas ranging from AI innovations for business process optimization and improving decisions, to data literacy and business transformation practices, AI and regulation, as well as on new Machine Learning methods. He has four degrees from MIT, two BSc degrees simultaneously, Computer Science and Mathematics, a Master and a PhD degree in Computer Science. His work has appeared in leading journals, such as in Science Magazine, Machine Learning, Nature Digital Medicine, HBR magazine, and others. He is currently director of the INSEAD Executive Education programs on “Transforming your Business with AI” and “AI for Business”. He is a member of the OECD Network of Experts on AI, an advisor for the BCG Henderson Institute, and a World Economic Forum academic partner for Artificial Intelligence. He gives talks and consults for a number of organisations in his areas of expertise.
